Even though the current name is Itaú Cinema Space – Glauber Rocha, I prefer to refer to him simply by the name of the legendary director from Bahia, one of the most influential figures of the Cinema Novo movement.
After all, it's the name I know. It was there that I watched, as a child, the Batman movie with Michael Keaton. Or several of the Trapalhões' films. In other words, nothing is more fitting than "keeping" the name from my fond memories.
But the gratitude to Itaú for renovating the space and, moreover, maintaining the original facade and logo is undeniable.
And this facade, which I find incredible, generates an interesting perception in many people. Since I used to go there a lot by Uber, before social isolation, almost always whoever was driving asked me what Glauber Rocha was.
In other words, many people pass by daily and have no idea that it's a movie theater. This was reflected in the screenings. Since I always went to the first showing on Sunday (not an inviting time, let's face it), the theater was sparsely populated.
More about cinema
When I left, around 3 pm, it was busier, but nothing excessive. And the ticket price was very affordable. R$ 20 full price for the first showing.
As one might expect, several sections feature paintings of Glauber himself in action, such as this one, and photos of his works.

The view we have in the hallway to the upper floors.
The downside is the lack of variety in the coffee service. They have some savory snacks, coffees, and boxed juices, which I don't like.
Furthermore, the Glauber Rocha cinema always hosts film festivals. After all, the audience there is passionate about cinema, and it showcases both... blockbusters How many art films.

Glauber Rocha's terrace
It was an obligatory ritual to go up to the rooftop after the movie. After all, the view of the Bay of All Saints is breathtaking; admiring this natural beauty is invigorating. Therefore, if you browse my profile, you'll find several photos taken there.

Finally, we hope that Itaú will be able to keep this asset of our city functioning after the pandemic. After all, spaces for cinema are always necessary.
The Glauber Rocha cinema is located in Castro Alves Square, near Rua Chile, which appears in one of the old photos that... I showed it in this post.
