This text is exclusively about this building.
History of Fort Monte Serrat

Initially named São Felipe, in honor of Philip II, King of Portugal and Spain, the fort's design is attributed to the Italian engineer Baccio di Filicaia. The current name came after the reign of Dom João VI.
Built between 1583 and 1587, the Monte Serrat Fort represents the oldest model of Salvador's defensive system during the colonial period.
Even after undergoing renovations, the original appearance was always maintained. By 1927 it was deteriorated, and the restoration had to partially rebuild some of the towers.
What you will find inside the fort
Since 1993, he opened the Weapons Museum. But, from what I saw inside, only a few cannons are on display in addition to what's in the outdoor area. Therefore, it's a reminder of how the colonial era dealt with the city's defense.

After all, the fort was built right at the entrance to the Bay of All Saints. Therefore, its presence there makes sense.
How to get to Monte Serrat Fort
The address is Rua da Boa Viagem, 40. I recommend that, at least on the way there, you use one of the ride-sharing apps, as there are no bus stops near the fort. But if you want to go by public transport, check Google Maps or your favorite map app for the bus lines that stop at the bus stop near the Boa Viagem beach square.
After that, just go up a hill and you'll soon see the fort. If you're driving your own car, you can put the address into your GPS and it will take you right there. The challenge will be finding a place to park.
Enjoy watching the video below where I show you the fort and also Boa Viagem beach.
